The Russian armed forces are hit an apartment block in Kharkiv - Ukraine's second largest city on Saturday evening, injuring at least 12 people and forcing the rest of its residents to evacuate, Mayor Igor Terekhov said, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Kharkov, located about 30 km. from the Russian border, has been a frequent target of Russian attacks since Kremlin forces launched their invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Terekhov wrote on the Telegram social network that Russian forces used a guided bomb and that rescue teams are currently working on the ground. He added that many windows were broken and that 60 residents of the block were evacuated.
According to local media, the bomb landed on a tree in front of one of the block's entrances and several nearby cars caught fire.
Regional governor Oleg Sinegubov said that one of the injured in the attack was a child. He added that two strikes were carried out in Kharkiv, as well as another in the south-eastern city of Izyum, where two houses were set on fire.
In Kurakhovo, one of the main targets of the slow Russian advance in the Donetsk region, one person was killed by Russian artillery fire, the local prosecutor's office announced.
The authorities in the northern Sumy region announced that a Russian plane had struck an energy infrastructure in the city of Shostka.
Sumy region is also a frequent target of Russian attacks. It is located across the border from Russia's southern Kursk region, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an offensive last month.
Meanwhile, a Russian drone killed two people in the southern city of Nikopol – A 12-year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Sergiy Lisak, reported, quoted by DPA. He added in "Telegram" that a four-year-old child and a 25-year-old man were injured. The child was seriously injured and was taken to hospital. Local sources report that the strike was carried out by a kamikaze drone.
The industrial Ukrainian city of Nikopol is located on the north bank of the Dnieper River, with the Zaporizhzhia NPP located on the other bank, which is occupied by the Russian army.
