North Korean authorities have blown up sections of roads that connect the People's Republic with South Korea, Yonhap news agency reported, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea.
The announcement states that the measures have affected transport lines in the western and eastern parts of the peninsula. "North Korea blew up sections of roads north of the Military Demarcation Line around noon. Our military is increasing readiness and surveillance," the statement said. A day ago, the South Korean military warned that North Korea might be preparing to blow up roads.
The General Staff of the Korean People's Army announced on October 9 that it would close roads and railways with the Republic of Korea and "turn the southern border into a fortress". Pyongyang has indicated that it is beginning "practical measures for consistent territorial delimitation".
