Our position is very clear, direct, open and it is that there will be no constitutional changes under Bulgarian dictation and that the only way to solve this is to get a guarantee that this will not happen to us every six months, that Macedonia will face a shock and to have new and new vetoes, NOVA reported, referring to FOCUS.
This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of North Macedonia, Aleksandar Nikoloski, commenting on yesterday's statement by the head of German diplomacy, Analena Berbok, who pointed out that constitutional changes are a key step towards the start of Skopje's negotiations with the EU.
Brussels has officially separated Albania from North Macedonia on the way to the EU
"One of the ways we proposed - this is a postponed effect of the changes in the Constitution, which will come into force on the day of the ratification of the protocol for the membership of Macedonia in the EU by the Bulgarian Parliament. If Bulgaria really wants Macedonia to join the EU, I don't see what the difference is for them in three years, because, right, everyone says that we are ready and that after three years we will finish the negotiations,”, he also stated.
He emphasized that if the country starts the negotiations this fall, they will end in the fall of 2027 and then, according to him, the membership agreement can be ratified in the Bulgarian parliament.
"So I don't see what it matters to the Bulgarian government, if they are honest, whether the constitutional changes will happen in 2024 or 2027. Of course, it's already been two years since that harmful French proposal, so I think with this we clear everything up for the Bulgarian politicians. This proposal finds a lot of sympathy and understanding in many EU capitals and remains in the next period until the elections in Bulgaria are over. And we will see what the position of the new Bulgarian government will be," Nikoloski emphasizes.
