Readiness of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discuss settling the situation in Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin is an important signal.
The refusal of other Western countries to participate in such a dialogue is unconstructive, the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov told TASS.
„We hear the words coming from Berlin – Scholz's words about his willingness to enter into dialogue. These are important words, because until recently Germany was among the rest of the countries of the collective West that completely excluded any contacts with Putin. Then we said that this position is hopeless“, he stressed.
Scholz's current readiness for dialogue is “something to be welcomed”, Peskov added.
