The candidate of the Republican Party for the presidency of the United States Donald Trump increased the verbal attacks against her rival from the Democratic Party Kamala Harris, who turned to famous performers to generate enthusiasm for her campaign, reports Reuters, cited by BTA.
Harris and Trump are tied for the most votes in the most contested states, and many Americans are already voting early by mail or in person, with the Nov. 5 election just 17 days away.
On Saturday, Harris rallied supporters at an event in Detroit, Michigan, marking the city's first day of early voting, along with Detroit-born rapper Lizo, who said voting was crucial in the state. Later in Atlanta, Kamala Harris appeared with pop artist Usher.
Votes in several swing states, where candidates from both parties have strong support and election results in previous cycles have been close, are likely to decide the vote, Reuters said.
In Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Trump stepped up his personal attacks on Harris, a practice that some of his advisers say could alienate swing voters.
„You should tell Kamala Harris that you're fed up, that you just can't take it anymore. We can't stand you, you're a nasty vice president," Donald Trump said in Latrobe, quoted by Reuters. As the crowd cheered, Trump added: “Kamala, you're fired, get out of here, you're fired.
Trump went off-script for the Latrobe event, spending plenty of time talking about golf legend Arnold Palmer, who was born in the town. Trump included in his speech a comment about the genitalia of the late golf legend: “He took a shower with the other pros, and they came out and said, “Oh my God, this is amazing,”, Trump said.
Harris' campaign quickly capitalized on the comments.
„Trump's closing argument in Pennsylvania is literal garbage. In a speech at a rally in Pennsylvania, which his campaign team described as “the beginning of his closing argument in the final piece”, Donald Trump focused on the most important question for voters: ... the anatomy of a deceased golfer, according to Kamala Harris campaign statement.
In both Detroit and Atlanta, Harris urged his supporters to go all out to win.
„On Election Day, we don't want to regret what we could have done in the next 17 days,” she told about 300 voters who planned to walk together to an early voting location.
She said early voting had already set records in Georgia and North Carolina, and called on Detroit - a city known for producing music records - to follow suit.
In Atlanta, Georgia, Kamala Harris held a rally with pop artist Usher, who interrupted his concert tour to urge voters to get their neighbors and friends to vote.
„Every call counts. Every conversation counts. All of this is important to finish this race... Everything we do in the next 17 days will affect the future of our children, our grandchildren, the people we love the most,” Usher said.
Harris will need strong results in the predominantly non-white cities of Detroit and Atlanta and their surrounding suburbs to repeat President Joe Biden's 2020 victories in Michigan and Georgia.
Trump is trying to capitalize on his improved positions in opinion polls, which show close results for the two candidates.
Early voting also begins Saturday in Nevada, where former President Barack Obama plans to campaign for Harris in Las Vegas.
Both 2024 candidates spent Friday in the contested state of Michigan, where they traded barbs about their suitability for office. Trump, 78, dismissed Harris' accusations that he was exhausted by the pace of the final days of the campaign. On Sunday, Harris turns 60 years old, reminds Reuters.
