The Libyan citizen, detained by the German police on suspicion of preparing an attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin, intended to use firearms in his attack, said the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe, quoted by DPA.
The man, who is suspected of having links to the terrorist group “Islamic State”, was arrested yesterday by heavily armed police at his home in a suburb of the German capital. However, law enforcement authorities have not said anything about how the suspect planned to carry out the attack, but the office of the Federal Prosecutor in the city of Karlsruhe today released more details.
Omar A., whose full surname was withheld in accordance with strict German data protection laws, is due to appear before the Federal Court in Karlsruhe today. The judge will decide whether he will remain in custody during the investigation.
Prosecutors said the man intended to carry out a “spectacular attack with firearms” and that he discussed his plans with a member of the “Islamic State” via a mobile chat application.
