Documents have been submitted to the Central Election Commission of Belarus for the registration of the initiative group to nominate the head of the Belarusian state, Alexander Lukashenko, as a presidential candidate in the 2025 elections, the BelTA agency reports.

The initiative group will be headed by the chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Yury Senko."In accordance with the fact that the president has entrusted me to lead the initiative group, I am ready to hand over the entire package of registration documents to our initiative group“, Senko said, a video fragment from the CEC was published by the Telegram channel “First Information“.

The current head of state Lukashenko announced on October 23 that he has decided to run for a new presidential term. The House of Representatives of Belarus has decided to schedule presidential elections for January 26, 2025. The proposal for the date of the vote is the Central Election Commission. Later, Lukashenko announced that he would raise his candidacy in the elections. The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus, member of the House of Representatives (the lower house of the parliament) Oleg Gaidukevich, second only to Lukashenko, announced his nomination for the post of head of state.
