Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived today on a visit to Athens for a meeting with his Greek counterpart Yorgos Gerapetritis as part of efforts to reduce tensions between the two neighboring countries, Turkish media reported, citing from BTA.
According to diplomatic sources, the talks between the two top diplomats will focus on bilateral relations. The foreign ministers will discuss the preparations for the High-Level Cooperation Council between Turkey and Greece, which will be held in early 2025.
The meeting between the two foreign ministers is the next step after a series of talks between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. These negotiations are part of the initiative to improve relations between Greece and Turkey, launched in 2023.
Turkey hopes that improving relations between the two countries will also contribute to solving the problems of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace and other parts of Greece.
