Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema said today that her subordinates authorities are still establishing the full extent of the violence directed at Israeli fans after the Europa League football match between the Dutch "Ajax" and "Maccabi" (Tel Aviv), finished 5:0 last night, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
"Despite the massive police presence in the city, Israeli supporters were injured," Halsema said in a post on "Instagram", specifying that the exact number of injured and arrested has not yet been established.
Halsema said that additional security measures will be put in place after last night's riots, with a special focus on additional security at Jewish institutions and sites.
Earlier today, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof called the violence against Israeli citizens "unacceptable,", Reuters notes.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu organized a rescue mission for Israeli citizens in Amsterdam, ordering the immediate dispatch of two planes with medical teams and supplies.
According to the Dutch police, 57 people were arrested after the match. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators tried to reach the Johan Cruyff stadium, where the football match was being played, although the city authorities did not give permission for their protest march, notes Reuters.
Violence by pro-Palestinian demonstrators in Amsterdam against Israeli football supporters was condemned in the "X" and by Israel's permanent representative to the UN, Danny Danon, reported the Associated Press.
According to new data from the Israeli authorities, three Israelis are missing after the fierce clashes. This morning, the Israeli Foreign Ministry reported that ten people were injured in the riots. The extent of their injuries is not yet clear, DPA notes.
The ministry urged Israeli citizens to use public transport to get to the airport, where Israeli authorities sent two cargo planes to evacuate the fans.
According to the data from the Dutch police, there were several clashes in the center of the city, informs DPA. It is not clear where exactly the violence started, but there were chairs thrown at visiting fans.
Amsterdam TV channel AT5 informs that Israelis have also been arrested for disturbing public order and illegal possession of fireworks. There were also clashes between supporters of "Maccabi" and the police, DPA points out.
About two hundred pro-Palestinian demonstrators tried to make their way to the stadium, although their march was forbidden by the city authorities.
