Remains of a previously unknown temple were discovered in the Dacian fortress of Costesti-Cettsuye in the Romanian county of Hunedoara, which is one of the most important archaeological discoveries at this site in recent years hundred years, the Hunedoara District Council, which manages the archaeological site, announced on Friday, Agerpress agency reported for BTA.

The discovery was made during this year's archaeological excavation campaign, funded by Hunedoara County Council and the Ministry of Culture, and opens a new look at the religious buildings in the Kostesh-Chettsuye area. This is the fifth ancient stone structure discovered in the Dacian fortress in the last hundred years.

The discovery, announced on the eve of UNESCO World Heritage Day, which is celebrated in Romania on November 16, will certainly contribute to a better understanding of Dacian society and its interaction with other modern European civilizations, the District Council notes.

According to the experts, in the coming years, archaeological research will be expanded in order to document the planimetry of the temple, the chronology of its development, the construction technique, as well as to obtain information about the activities carried out within its limits.
