British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said no plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the same time, he stated that support for Ukraine “must be doubled” while the conflict in it approaches its thousandth day, reported PA Media/DPA, quoted by BTA.
There is now concern about the level of Washington's support for Kiev when US presidential election winner Donald Trump returns to the White House in January. Earlier this week, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a conversation with Putin – the first public contact between the Russian president and a current leader of a major Western country in nearly two years.
When asked if he would hold such a conversation, Starmer said that “it depends on Chancellor Scholz who he talks to, but I have no plans to talk to Putin”.
„On Tuesday we reach the thousandth day of the conflict. This is a thousand days of Russian aggression, a thousand days of huge sacrifices, as far as the Ukrainian people are concerned. "We have recently seen North Korean soldiers cooperating with the Russians, which will have serious consequences," Starmer said before leaving for the G20 summit in Brazil.
„I think that on the one hand it shows Russia's desperation, but it has serious implications for European security as well as for the security of the Indo-Pacific region, and that's why I think we need to redouble our support for Ukraine, and that's the most "- the most important part of my program for the G-20 meeting," he added.
„There must be full support for as long as necessary and stepping up this additional support for Ukraine is certainly at the top of my agenda,”, the British prime minister said.
