We must be more united if we want to speak the language of the mighty. We must be more realistic in our relations with the rest of the world, said the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, after the end of today's meeting of European foreign ministers in Brussels, quoted by BTA.

„The world does not stop and even moves faster in the wrong direction. There is a need for faster reactions from the EU”, insisted Borel, whose mandate ends in the coming days. According to him, there is a lot of uncertainty about how the new US leadership will deal with the current global crises. Relations with the new government in the US will be “interesting”, he added.

Support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia must continue. Without China, Iran and North Korea, Russia could not have continued the war. China's role is growing, Borrell added. He pointed out that every Russian step left unanswered leads to a deepening of the conflict. Perhaps our response to the seizure of Crimea in 2014. should have been tougher, commented the high representative.

Borrell noted that Washington's decision to allow Ukraine to hit targets in Russia with the US-supplied weapon affects missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers. "I don't know why this decision was made now and not before the US presidential election," he added. Borel specified that the EU countries themselves assess how to use the weapons they supplied to Ukraine and specified that this issue was not discussed at the meeting of foreign ministers.

The High Representative announced that the EU will send a mission to Georgia related to the recent elections in the country. “Georgian leaders moved the country away from the European path, we want Georgia to return to this path, but therefore efforts are needed. Georgia cannot move forward in relations with the EU without clear changes. Our door will remain open, Borel added.
