France urges Iran to fulfill its nuclear obligations and cooperate with the UN - 1

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barot called on Iran to abide by its nuclear obligations and cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This statement followed the resolution submitted by France, Germany and Great Britain against Iran in the UN nuclear regulator, quoted by BTA.

"The minister reiterated that Iran's nuclear escalation is worrying and carries the risk of seriously worsening the situation," said a statement by the French Foreign Ministry following a conversation between Jean-Noel Barot and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi.

France, Germany and Britain, known as the European Troika, remain committed to resuming talks to find a diplomatic solution. The statement emphasized that these countries are continuing their efforts to bring Iran back into compliance with the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Last night, the three European countries submitted a resolution to the IAEA demanding a detailed report on Iran's nuclear activities. The 2015 accord, which was signed between Iran and world powers, called for curbs on the country's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. After the US withdrawal in 2018 and the escalation of tensions, however, the agreement was called into question.
