This was stated to TASS by the diplomatic department, commenting on the publication about the possible appointment of the director of the North American Department of the MFA, Alexander Darchiev, to this position.
„Moscow decided on the candidacy several months ago and it was an open secret. Due to legislative restrictions, we do not publicly comment on this process.
Earlier "Kommersant", citing three sources, named Darchiev as the most likely candidate for the post of ambassador in Washington.
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on November 20 that the Kremlin has decided on the candidacy of the new Russian ambassador to the United States and his appointment can be expected in the "foreseeable future".
