The Kremlin scrutinized US President-elect Donald Trump's statement about Ukraine's readiness to conclude a peace agreement with Russia.
„We have carefully read the statement of the newly elected US President Donald Trump, which he made after a meeting in Paris with the President of France Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Zelensky,” the press secretary of the president Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
The newly elected US president arrived in France, where he met with Macron and Zelensky. Their three-way talks ended after 20 minutes without a joint final statement. At the same time, the American portal Axios wrote, citing sources, that initially Trump did not intend to meet with Zelensky in Paris, but Macron convinced him of the need to hold talks in a trilateral format.
Trump later wrote on his Truth Social page that Ukraine would like to reach an agreement with Russia to resolve the conflict and called for an immediate ceasefire and the start of peace talks. He also opined that "China can help" in the negotiation process. At the same time, Trump added that otherwise the Ukrainian crisis “could develop into something much bigger and much worse".
