China: Political solution needed to stabilize Syria after Assad ousted - 1

China called for finding a "political solution" in Syria after the overthrow of President Bashar Assad, forced to leave the country by the impressive offensive of the Islamist rebels, reports France Presse, quoted by BTA.

"We hope all participating countries will act in the interest of the Syrian people to find a quick and stable political solution to restore stability in Syria," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press conference.

"China will firmly defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity," she added regarding Taiwan. The spokeswoman emphasized that the island is "inseparable" part of China.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang, for his part, told representatives of the leading multilateral financial institutions today that the world economy is facing increasing challenges due to the trend towards "de-globalization". "In the context of slowing global economic growth, this problem leads to an increase in uncertainty, which seriously disrupts the functioning of the world economy,", the Prime Minister stressed.

"Some countries are significantly increasing tariffs, building protective barriers and multiplying trade restrictions," he added.

Li Qiang, the second most important person in the Chinese government, was speaking at the opening of a summit in Beijing called "Dialogue 1+10" involving the heads of international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Trade Organization organization (WTO) and the World Bank, notes AFP.
