South Korea's justice ministry imposes travel ban on President Yoon - 1

South Korea's Justice Ministry has imposed a foreign travel ban on President Yoon Suk-yeol as part of an investigation into last week's brief declaration of martial law, the Associated Press reported, citing BTA .

South Korea's police, prosecutors and anti-corruption agency asked for the ban as they expand their investigation into possible sedition charges related to Yun's imposition of martial law last week.

A Justice Ministry official said the ban had already been issued during a parliamentary hearing.

The martial law order the president issued last Tuesday sent special forces units into the streets of Seoul and plunged South Korea into political turmoil. It caused concern among the country's key diplomatic partners and neighbors.

On Saturday, Yoon Suk-yeol avoided an impeachment attempt organized by the opposition after a majority of ruling party lawmakers boycotted the parliamentary vote. However, opposition parties have promised to table a new motion for impeachment this week.
