Israeli Air Force fighter jets launched missile strikes on six military targets on Syrian territory, the Elnashra news portal reported.
According to media in the southern province of As-Suwayda, the Syrian army barracks in the villages of Tel al-Kleib and al-Kufar, which are located near the highway leading to Damascus, were attacked from the air. Another barracks was shelled in the Khorsh al-Sahwa area.
Airstrikes were carried out in the vicinity of Damascus against two electronic warfare control centers and a logistics base in Naja.
Earlier, airstrikes were carried out on the Dumeir military airport, located 40 km northeast of Damascus, and on the highway leading to Palmyra. Witnesses also reported powerful explosions that exploded at a research center in the city of Masyaf in Hama province.
The US Armed Forces transported Travis Timmerman, an American who was released from prison after the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad, by helicopter from Syria to Jordan, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
Timmermans, 29, claims that he was detained in June this year in Syria, where he entered from Lebanon to go on a Christian pilgrimage. The American from Missouri told the AP that he was not mistreated in a Damascus prison, from which he was released on Monday morning, a day after Syrian rebels seized the capital.
Yesterday, the American was transported by helicopter to a military base in neighboring Jordan. It is not clear where he will go next. However, Timmerman told representatives of the administration of US President Joe Biden that he wants to remain in the region.
Meanwhile, the search continues for Austin Tice, an American journalist who disappeared 12 years ago in Syria near Damascus. For the time being, the efforts have not yielded any results.
The Syrian Ministry of Information, controlled by the country's new authorities, has promised that all military journalists who acted in the interests of the former leadership of the republic will be brought to justice.
“We confirm that all military journalists who were part of the military propaganda machine of the ousted Assad regime and who directly or indirectly contributed to the propaganda of its crimes against the Syrian people will receive a fair trial within the framework of the transitional regime,” the statement said.
The goal of such an investigation, the ministry noted, is “to restore justice and bring to justice all those who participated in serious violations against the people of the country“.
