Donald Trump could become a "Churchill of our time" if he secures a lasting peace agreement in Ukraine, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tshakna said in an interview with the online edition of the British "Telegraph", BNR reported.
In the interview, Margus Tshakna said that he hopes Donald Trump will achieve a "long-lasting" ceasefire, but warned that the newly elected president will have to give Ukraine “more than ironclad guarantees" of security.
"President Trump literally has the opportunity to become a "Churchill of our time" "and I'm not just talking about Russian aggression, but also about the big question on a global scale - what the international rules will be," Tshakna pointed out.
Estonia's number one diplomat said that the "clear position" Estonia's position is that Ukraine should receive full NATO membership or "equivalent levels of Western security guarantees".
"If Putin can claim that he and anyone else can change borders by force and can be constantly aggressive without real responsibilities, this could harm everyone in Europe, as well as the position of the United States," said Margus Tshakna.
After Russia's full-scale invasion, Estonia spent more of its GDP per capita on supporting Ukraine than any other country in the world, and was one of the few to send weapons to Kiev even before the Russian invasion.
