Unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles disrupted operations at Stewart International Airport in New York State, Gov. Kathy Hochul said.
“The runways at Stewart Airport were closed for about an hour last night due to drone activity in the airspace. This has gone too far,“ the governor said.
Hochul believes the U.S. Congress should approve a bill that would strengthen local enforcement against illegal drone use. Until this document is adopted, “the Biden administration should send additional resources to federal law enforcement agencies in New York and the surrounding regions to ensure the safety of people and critical infrastructure.“
Earlier, an FBI representative told at a special briefing for journalists that the United States administration has not yet determined the origin of the drones observed in the skies over New Jersey and New York. A Pentagon spokesman, who participated in the briefing, added that authorities have no evidence that there is a threat to public safety.
