China launches new-generation amphibious assault ship to boost high-seas combat capabilities - 1

China has taken a significant step in the modernization of its military fleet, launching a new-generation amphibious assault ship. This is the first Type 076 ship, named Sichuan, which is distinguished by its large size and innovative technologies, News.bg reports.

Designed to increase the combat capabilities of the Chinese navy in distant seas, the ship is part of the country's ambitious program to strengthen its naval power.

Innovations in design and technology

Sichuan is the largest amphibious assault ship ever built in China, with a displacement of 40,000 tons. It features an electromagnetic catapult that will allow fighters to launch directly from its deck, a major technological innovation in military shipbuilding. This system significantly increases the ship's operational range, allowing it to provide air support for long-range amphibious operations.

Strategic role of amphibious ships

Sichuan is intended to play an important role in China's strategic plans, providing capabilities for landing ground troops on foreign shores and supporting military operations on the high seas. The ability to effectively deploy troops and support through air operations provides China with new opportunities for projecting power in remote regions, as well as for protecting its maritime interests.

Preparation for trials and future plans

After launching, the ship will undergo a series of additional tests, including sea trials, that will verify its operational effectiveness and capabilities in various conditions. These tests will be key to confirming its combat capabilities and its readiness for integration into the fleet.

Expansion of the Chinese Navy

With the launch of Sichuan, China continues to develop the world's largest navy as part of its ambitious military modernization program. After initial successes with the Type 075 amphibious assault ships launched in 2019, China has continued to invest in new technologies and ships to strengthen its naval power. Among the future projects is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which would allow the country to deploy its ships in distant waters without being dependent on logistical bases for refueling.
