World leaders and US politicians have reacted to the news that former US President Jimmy Carter, who brokered peace between Israel and Egypt in the 1970s and later won the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work, has died at the age of 100, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

„Today, America and the world lost an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian. For more than six decades, we had the honor of calling Jimmy Carter a dear friend. But what is extraordinary about Jimmy Carter is that millions of people in the United States and around the world who never met him also considered him a dear friend," said US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill in a statement.

“The challenges Jimmy faced as president came at a crucial time for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we owe him a debt of gratitude,“ said US President-elect Donald Trump.

Former US President Bill Clinton and his wife – former Secretary of State Hillary, recalled Jimmy Carter's achievements in protecting the environment and promoting world peace and his "tireless efforts to achieve a better and more just world."

“During his lifetime, Jimmy Carter was a steadfast defender of the rights of the most vulnerable and a tireless fighter for peace“, wrote on the social network “Ex“ French President Emmanuel Macron.

“I would like to pay tribute to Carter's decades of selfless public service. "Motivated by his strong faith and values, he redefined the post-presidency period with his remarkable commitment to social justice and human rights at home and abroad," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi noted Carter's "important role" in peace between Egypt and Israel. "His important role in the implementation of the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel will remain engraved in history, and his humanitarian work embodies the high principles of love, peace and brotherhood," the Egyptian head of state wrote on social networks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky paid tribute to Carter for his steadfast support for Kiev in the fight against Russia. "His heart stood firmly with us in our ongoing struggle for freedom. "We appreciate his unwavering commitment to the Christian faith and democratic values, as well as his unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russia's unjustified aggression," Zelensky wrote in Ex.

“Jimmy Carter's legacy is one of compassion, kindness, empathy and hard work. Throughout his life, he served others both at home and around the world - and he loved to do so. He was always thoughtful and generous with his advice to me. May his selfless service continue to inspire us all for years to come," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.

“I extend my condolences to the family and to the people and government of the United States on the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. His tenure in the White House was marked by difficult times and was crucial for Panama in negotiating and signing the treaties that transferred the Panama Canal to the country and made it truly sovereign. May his soul rest in peace,” said Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino.

“Former President Carter was a man with a proven commitment to peace and dialogue. His contributions to global politics and his dedication to peace left an indelible mark on the world,“ said Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
