The explosion of the electric Cybertruck pickup truck in front of the 64-story Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, was caused by fireworks or an explosive device, and not by a malfunction in the electric vehicle, Tesla founder Elon Musk said.

In the explosion in front of the hotel, which FACTS already reported on Saturday, one person died and seven others were injured.

“We confirm that the explosion was caused by a very large amount of fireworks or an explosive device that was transported in a rented Cybertruck and was not directly related to the vehicle itself“, he wrote on his X page.

“The vehicle's telemetry was normal at the time of the explosion“, Musk said.

US intelligence agencies are investigating whether there is a connection between the terrorist attack in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas.

“We are monitoring the situation with the Cybertruck explosion at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas“, US leader Joe Biden said from his residence in Camp David (Maryland) in a brief televised address to his compatriots in connection with the terrorist attack in New Orleans and the explosion in Las Vegas.

“Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are also investigating this matter, including whether there is any possible connection to the New Orleans attack“, Biden said. "There is nothing to report yet on the issue of a connection between the two incidents," he noted.

The American leader did not answer journalists' questions about whether he had spoken to US President-elect Donald Trump about the incident and whether similar incidents should be expected in the US in the near future.

According to ABC television, the incident in front of Trump's hotel is being investigated by authorities as a potential terrorist attack.
