Airports in major English cities partially reopened - 1

Airports in major English cities have reopened at least partially after many flights were canceled or diverted due to heavy snowfall, BNR reported.

Leeds-Bradford airport was the latest to reopen, again with warnings for travelers to check the status of their flights in advance.

Thousands of British households were left without power, and all modes of transport were affected by snow and ice. There is also a risk of flooding, given that in many parts of the country the snow is turning to rain.

In its latest update, the Met Office highlighted the stark contrast in temperatures across the country. While the Scottish Highlands recorded a low of minus 11 degrees Celsius overnight, the Isles of Scilly in the southwest was plus 13 degrees Celsius. Even within less than 100 kilometers, there is a difference in temperatures of up to 9 degrees.

However, the invading, softer air masses are turning snow into rain and flood warnings have been issued in many places in England. Snow continues to fall in northern England and parts of southern Scotland. The bad weather has caused power outages, with Wales, central and south-west England being the most seriously affected.

The airports in Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester were closed last night. Today they resumed their work, but with delays and flight cancellations.

Several flights to Manchester have been diverted to other airports, and 24 flights from Manchester have been canceled.

Great chaos reigns at Bristol airport due to problems with luggage from arriving flights. The airport, which serves Leeds and Bradford, remains closed.

The road conditions are dire, with many reports of road accidents. The weather conditions are similar on the neighboring island of Ireland.

The Liverpool derby between the local club of the same name and Manchester United will be played, despite the winter conditions. The match kicks off at 18:30 Bulgarian time.

The management of the "Berlin/Brandenburg" airport has halved the number of planes arriving in the German capital tonight due to expected sleet, an airport spokeswoman told DPA, quoted by BTA.

The number of planes landing per hour has been reduced from 40 to 20 to ensure their safe handling by airport staff.

The airlines themselves decide which flights to Berlin will take place, the spokeswoman added, advising all passengers to monitor the information received from the airlines regarding their flights.

Delays are also expected due to the bad weather, but departing planes will not be affected by the restrictions.
