Donald Trump Jr. arrived in Greenland's capital, Nuuk, on Monday, fueling speculation that the resource-rich Arctic island could come under US control. His visit followed another expression of interest from his father, President-elect Donald Trump, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Trump Jr.'s private jet touched down on the island at 12:50 GMT. Live broadcast from Nuuk airport confirmed his arrival.
"No, I'm not buying Greenland. In fact, I'm going to take a very long, private, day trip to Greenland," he said yesterday in his podcast, emphasizing that his visit was for tourism purposes.
Donald Trump, who will officially take office as US president on January 20, recently posted on the social network "Truth Social" comments about the natural beauty and strategic importance of Greenland. He noted: "Greenland is an incredible place and the people will benefit immensely if and when it becomes part of our country."
At the same time, Greenlandic Prime Minister Muti Egede reiterated that "the island is not for sale." In his New Year's speech, he emphasized Greenland's desire to achieve independence from Denmark in the foreseeable future.
