More than 12,300 civilians have lost their lives since the start of the war in Ukraine, Nada an Nashiv, the UN deputy high commissioner for human rights, said today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

She stressed that in recent months there has been a sharp increase in civilian casualties. This is a result of the increasing use of drones, long-range missiles and guided bombs.

Nashiv pointed out that Russian forces have intensified their operations aimed at expanding control over eastern regions of Ukraine. The potential impact on the civilian population in Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions is serious, especially since September last year.

“We are deeply concerned about the impact on the civilian population of the new use of drones and destructive weapons“, said Nashiv, highlighting the use of heavy cruise missiles in densely populated areas, which are causing enormous damage.
