Blinken: Ukraine deal must include deterrents against new Russian attacks - 1

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Monday that any future agreement to end the war in Ukraine must include deterrents to prevent the risk of Russia attacking Ukraine again, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

During his visit to Paris, Blinken warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin could use any ceasefire to regroup Russian forces and ultimately launch a new attack on Ukraine.

He also added that more than a third of Israeli troops in Lebanon had withdrawn after the truce between Israel and the Lebanese group "Hezbollah". Blinken said that despite remaining challenges, a monitoring mechanism set up by the US and France to monitor compliance with the ceasefire has proven effective.

When asked about the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which is the result of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Qatar, Blinken said it was "very close to being achieved," AFP reported.

Blinken also expressed a strong opinion on US President-elect Donald Trump's proposal to make Greenland part of the US, saying it was "not a good idea."
