The Swedish army will buy tanks worth 22 billion Swedish kronor ($1.97 billion) from German-French defense equipment manufacturer KNDS, Defense Minister Pál Johnson announced, quoted by "Reuters" and News.bg.
The order was placed in late December and includes 44 Leopard 2 A8 tanks, as well as upgrades to 66 existing tanks.
“This is an absolutely necessary investment“, Johnson stressed, adding that the new tanks will help Sweden achieve its goal of doubling the size of the army.
