NATO's newest member - Sweden, will test a revolutionary drone swarm technology developed jointly by defense equipment group Saab and the Swedish Armed Forces. This was announced by Defense Minister Pál Jónsson, quoted by "Reuters" agency, News.bg reports.
At a press conference, Jónsson specified that the technology was created last year and will be tested during the upcoming Arctic Strike exercise.
“We will have to take some risks to build a stronger defense capacity faster than we usually do“, he said.
The new technology allows the formation of drone swarms of different sizes that can autonomously perform different tasks. “With these swarms of drones, it is possible to carry out reconnaissance, positioning and identification“, the minister emphasized.
Sweden joined NATO in March 2024 against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The country plans a significant increase in defense spending - from 2.2% of GDP in 2024 to 2.6% in 2028, with the aim of strengthening national and allied security.
