A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck southern Japan on Friday, the Associated Press and Reuters reported, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency, quoted by BTA.

A tsunami warning has been issued for Miyazaki prefecture on Kyushu island and Kochi prefecture on Shikoku island following the earthquake. Waves of up to one meter are expected.

There have been no reports of damage or disruption to nuclear power plants in the region. "Sendai" in Kagoshima prefecture and "Ikata" in Shikoku prefecture are operating normally, with no indications of damage, according to information from Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
