Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that the whole world knows about the Gulf of Mexico, despite the intentions of US President Donald Trump, CNN reported.
“The US calls it the Gulf of Mexico, for us it is still the Gulf of Mexico, and for the whole world it is still the Gulf of Mexico“, she said.
Sheinbaum responded to Trump's initiative for the Gulf of Mexico by proposing that the entire continent regain its historical name Mexican America, which has been used since 1607.
After taking office, the US president signed an executive order ordering the process of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America - according to the document, the US Secretary of the Interior should take all “necessary action“ to rename it “within 30 days."
