The UK supports sending its troops to Ukraine and is ready to send aircraft to close the skies, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a speech in the House of Commons.
“The UK will play a leading role, if necessary, along with others, in sending ground troops and aircraft to the skies of Ukraine”, he noted.
The prime minister stressed that strong support from the US is necessary for the success of such missions. According to him, European countries cannot provide Kiev with reliable security guarantees without Washington's support.
Starmer declared that Europe will continue to arm Ukraine after peace is established.
Earlier, the Telegraph newspaper, citing sources in the British government, reported that the leaders of Great Britain and France were secretly discussing the joint deployment of "peacekeeping forces" in Ukraine after the end of the conflict.
The press service of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service earlier reported that the West would deploy a so-called peacekeeping contingent of about one hundred thousand people to the country to restore Ukraine's combat readiness and called the prospect of this a "de facto occupation" of the republic.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the deployment of peacekeepers is possible only with the consent of the parties to a specific conflict. According to him, it is too early to talk about them in the neighboring country.
