A Moscow court has increased to 21.5 years the prison sentence of American David Thomas Barnes, who is guilty of sexual abuse of his own children. He has also been assigned mandatory treatment, the press service of the Moscow prosecutor's office reported.
"The Moscow City Court of Appeal increased the sentence of a 67-year-old man, found guilty under Part 4 of Article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court sentenced the man to 21 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a penal colony with a strict regime, recognized an aggravating circumstance and additionally imposed a mandatory medical measure in the form of mandatory outpatient observation and treatment," the statement said. The verdict has entered into force.
This concerns American citizen Barnes specifically.
Earlier, by a verdict of the Savelovsky District Court, he was sentenced to 21 years in prison in a strict regime penal colony for committing three crimes. The case against the American was initiated after a statement from his ex-wife. According to the prosecutor's office, from 2014 to 2018, Barnes committed violent sexual acts against his sons, born in 2010 and 2014, who were visiting him in Texas and are citizens of the Russian Federation. In Russia, he was deprived of parental rights.
In 2022, Barnes came to Russia on a tourist visa and was arrested. He has been in custody since then.
