French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Friedrich Merz on his election as Chancellor of Germany and announced that he expects him tomorrow in Paris, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
In a message on the social network "X" Macron said: “I look forward to our meeting tomorrow in Paris to make the Franco-German engine and reflex stronger than ever.“
He stressed the importance of joint efforts to strengthen European security, sovereignty and competitiveness: “It is up to us to accelerate our European agenda. For the French, the Germans and all Europeans.“
Traditionally, the first foreign visit of new German chancellors is to France - a sign of the deep strategic partnership between the two countries. France and Germany are not only the largest economies in the European Union, but also the main political drivers of European integration.
