A tornado formed in Tulcea County, in the southeastern part of Romania, causing panic among local residents. People were warned of extreme weather conditions through the Ro-Alert system. Photos and videos of this unusual natural phenomenon for the region quickly spread on social networks, BTA reports.
The tornado formed in an uninhabited area and was short-lived.
„In our country, tornadoes are the result of particularly pronounced atmospheric instability. "The bare soil without vegetation and the high temperature amplitudes play a key role," Florina Georgescu, director of Romania's National Meteorological Administration, told Digi24 television.
In addition to the tornado, frequent hail and heavy rain have been recorded in Romania in recent days. A yellow code for storms and hail remains in force for half of the country.
The unstable weather is expected to continue until the end of the week. A sharp cold snap is forecast for the weekend, with temperatures in some areas dropping below 10 degrees. In Bucharest, the maximum temperature will be around 12 degrees, and in mountainous areas, especially in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, snow is possible.
