If a 30-day ceasefire is not reached in Ukraine, the US administration and its partners will impose sanctions, US President Donald Trump said on the Truth Social network.
He noted that negotiations with Moscow and Kiev are continuing, and Washington is calling for a "30-day unconditional ceasefire".
Trump expressed hope that "an acceptable ceasefire will be observed". "If the ceasefire is not respected, the United States and our partners will impose additional sanctions," the US president wrote.
The United States, together with Europe, will work to establish a lasting ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine that will lead to peace, Trump added.
"Thousands of young servicemen are dying every week, and everyone must want this to stop. As President, I will work with the Europeans to establish peace between Russia and Ukraine, and it will be a lasting peace! This ceasefire must ultimately lead to a peace agreement. All this can be done very quickly, and I will be ready at any time if my services are needed," the head of state noted.
Vladimir Zelensky called his phone conversation with US President Donald Trump good, saying that they discussed concrete steps that can be taken to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
„I had a good conversation with President Trump. We discussed the need for further efforts for peace, in particular, concrete steps that can be taken“, Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.
Zelensky told Trump that Ukraine is ready for negotiations in any format, but only after a ceasefire.
„Trump asked about the situation on the battlefield, and I informed him“, he added.
During the conversation, Zelensky and Trump welcomed the ratification by the Rada of the agreement on minerals. The vote in the Ukrainian parliament was held on Thursday in the presence of the US chargé d'affaires in Ukraine, Julie Davis. Trump had earlier said that if Zelensky tried to "back out of the deal", he would "have a lot of problems".
US Chief of Staff Donald Trump said that there was no planned meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia in mid-May, but that the countries were having "very good" talks.
The question of whether Trump had a chance to meet with Putin during his upcoming Middle East tour was asked by journalists at the White House. "I don't think so. But we are having very good talks. "Very, very good," the US president replied, without going into details.
As the Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov reported earlier this week, Putin "has no planned trips to the Middle East for mid-May." Trump signaled in April that he expected to meet with Putin "at some point." At the time, he suggested the meeting could take place "soon after" his trip to the Middle East. Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE from May 12 to 16.
