The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he had a first phone call with the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
The conversation between the two took place today and, according to Agence France-Presse, was in a constructive spirit. Zelensky has invited the Holy Father to visit Ukraine as a sign of solidarity and support.
Among the topics discussed were the fate of Ukrainian children forcibly taken to Russia, as well as the proposal by Kiev and its international allies for a 30-day ceasefire in hostilities with Moscow.
“My first conversation with the new head of the Roman Catholic Church was very cordial and meaningful“, Zelensky wrote on the “Telegram“ application, quoted by Reuters.
