Former US President Joe Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer with metastases in the bones, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing his family.
Biden was diagnosed on Friday after showing specific symptoms.
"Although this is a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective treatment," the former president's office said in a press release.
The health of the 82-year-old Biden was a major issue for voters during his presidential term, the Associated Press notes.
Biden dropped his candidacy for a second term after a disastrous performance at a pre-election debate in June. Kamala Harris, who was vice president at the time, subsequently became the Democratic nominee for president to replace Biden, but lost the race to Republican Donald Trump.
In February 2023, Biden underwent surgery to remove basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. In November 2021, a polyp, a benign but potentially precancerous growth, was removed from his colon.
