Stelian Bujduveanu was appointed today as interim mayor of Bucharest, after the incumbent mayor Nikusor Dan won the presidential elections in Romania on May 18, reports the "Agerpres" agency, BTA reports.
The decision was made during an extraordinary meeting of the Bucharest City Council, where 38 out of a total of 52 councilors voted "for", 8 voted "against", and six votes were annulled without giving a reason. Bujduvanu is a representative of the National Liberal Party (NLP).
In Sunday's presidential election, independent candidate and former mayor of Bucharest, Nikusor Dan, won with 53.60% of the vote. His rival, Gheorghe Simion, leader of the far-right Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), received 46.40% of the vote.
