Elon Musk is welcome in the European Union, a European Commission spokesperson said today during a press conference. The comment was made in response to a journalist's question, after the owner of the social network X and Tesla CEO entered into an open verbal clash with US President Donald Trump in recent hours, BTA reports.
“We have not established direct contact with Mr. Musk“, the spokesperson added, but stressed that everyone is welcome to start a business in the EU.
The statement comes in the context of the recently presented “Choose Europe“ strategy, which aims to both retain talent within the EU and attract external innovators and specialists. The initiative was presented by European Commission Vice-President Stephane Séjournay and European Commissioner for Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva.
At the end of May, Commissioner Zaharieva specified that the EU wants to become a preferred destination for scientists and researchers from all over the world. “We will reduce bureaucratic obstacles for foreign scientists who want to work here. We want Europe to be their choice“, she stressed.
The statement from Brussels shows that despite global political tensions and conflicts, the EU remains open to innovation, research and transnational cooperation.
