One of Iran's most important nuclear facilities - the uranium enrichment plant in Natanz - was among the targets of the major Israeli attack on the Islamic Republic, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said today, quoted by DPA, BTA reports.
In an article in "Ex", IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed that the Natanz facility was "among the targets". He described the situation as "deeply worrying" and assured that the agency is "following closely" situation, maintaining contact with Iranian authorities to determine current radiation levels.
Grossi added that IAEA inspectors are currently working in Iran, and the headquarters in Vienna is in constant contact with them.
The Natanz plant, located in central Iran, enriches uranium to a purity of up to 60 percent, DPA reported. This material is considered almost ready for use in the production of nuclear weapons, since, according to the IAEA, it can be relatively easily enriched to 90 percent - the level needed for weapons.
Tehran, for its part, insists that it has no intention of creating nuclear weapons, Reuters noted.
