Israel's national intelligence service, the Mossad, has built a drone base near Tehran, which it activated during the strike against Iran on the night of June 13, The Times of Israel reports, citing an Israeli intelligence official, Focus reports.
According to the official, drones launched from this base struck Iranian surface-to-surface missile launchers aimed at Israel.
Weapon systems were also smuggled into Iran, which disabled Iranian air defenses and gave Israeli aircraft air superiority on June 13.
Before the attack, Israel had deployed precision-guided missiles near air defense positions in central Iran.
According to the Israeli media source, Israel had spent years preparing for the operation against Iran's nuclear and missile programs. It was based on "innovative decision-making, bold planning and surgically precise application of cutting-edge technologies", which operated in the very heart of Iran and successfully evaded the attention of local intelligence.
The operation is reminiscent of the Ukrainian "Cobweb" strike, which hit several airports in Russia. Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate indicated that strike drones were secretly imported into Russian territory in preparation for the operation. Ukraine's GRU has been developing the operation for a little over a year.
On June 13, Israel launched large-scale air strikes against Iran, using 200 fighter jets and dropping over 330 munitions on more than 100 targets.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the start of a large-scale military operation targeting Iran's nuclear infrastructure, ballistic missile production facilities and other military facilities.
Netanyahu stressed that the operation would continue "until the full implementation of the tasks set".
