Salt Lake City Police Confirm Death of Anti-Trump Protester in Shooting at Demonstration
Utah City Police Earlier Reported One Man Was Injured and In Critical Condition in Shooting at a Rally on Saturday.
„We are providing new details about the June 14 shooting at the No Kings demonstration in downtown Salt Lake City. Arthur Folasa A Lu, 39, was shot and killed while attending a permitted event. Our detectives believe he was an innocent bystander. Arturo Gamboa, 24, was arrested and jailed on charges of murder,“ local police said in a statement.
The demonstration was part of a coordinated No Kings action that took place in the United States on the day of the military parade in Washington, which coincided with Trump's 79th birthday. The president himself had previously called the parade "an unforgettable celebration", inviting everyone to join him.
Protests against Trump's policies began in many US states after riots in Los Angeles on June 7, sparked by an action by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the city center, where a large-scale operation to identify illegal immigrants was underway.
Clashes with protesters erupted amid reports of possible cuts to federal funding for the state. The next day, the White House announced the deployment of National Guard troops to the city.
