Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to mediate in negotiations between Iran and Israel after the start of the war between the two countries on June 13, the Institute for the Study of War notes on its website, quoted by BTA.
At the same time, the Washington-based think tank predicts that neither Iran, Israel, nor the United States appear likely to participate in productive negotiations for peace or for the Iranian nuclear program in the near future. Accordingly, the Russian president is likely using the Iran-Israel war to present himself to his American counterpart Donald Trump as a peacemaker in an attempt to improve bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington and to obtain concessions on the war in Ukraine, American analysts comment.
As early as June 13, the Kremlin condemned the Israeli strikes on Iran, after which tensions escalated, and offered to mediate between the two countries. Today, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova warned the United States not to interfere in the military actions taken by Israel against Iran.
