The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev said today that the European Union poses a "direct threat" to Russia and that the possible accession of Ukraine to the EU would be dangerous for his country, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The EU has become a real enemy of Russia, but this should not prevent the continuation of bilateral cooperation between Moscow and some individual EU member states, Medvedev said.
He also pointed out, quoted by TASS, that the European Union is gradually taking shape as an independent military bloc capable of competing with NATO, and that recently it has turned into a "fiercely Russophobic organization".
