Tusk: It is time to start rebuilding Ukraine in peacetime - 1

“It is time to open a new chapter in the rebuilding of Ukraine, this time in peacetime“, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at the international conference on the rebuilding of Ukraine, held in Rome, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported, BTA reported.

In his opening remarks at the two-day forum, which began on July 10, Tusk stressed that the process of rebuilding Ukraine is inextricably linked to its victory in the ongoing war against Russia - a conflict that, in his words, is of key importance for the security of all of Europe.

The Prime Minister emphasized Poland's special role in supporting Ukraine. He announced that his country had provided over 25 billion euros in humanitarian, military aid and support for Ukrainian refugees. In addition, Poland is actively involved in the reconstruction of Ukraine's road and communication infrastructure. Tusk added that 90% of the aid to Ukraine passes through Polish territory.

“A free and sovereign Ukraine means a more secure European Union“, Tusk stressed.

He also said that it was “very likely” Poland to be chosen to host the next conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine in 2026.

“And we will organize it in such a way that the world can see not only where the center for coordinating aid is, but also a platform for investment and mobilization of serious financial resources“, he pointed out.

The first such conference took place in Lugano after the start of the Russian invasion, followed by meetings in London in 2023 and in Berlin in 2024.

This year's forum in Rome, held on July 10 and 11, brings together delegations from about 100 countries, international organizations and financial institutions.

Later on Thursday, Tusk was to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and participate in a video conference with representatives of the so-called coalition of the willing - a partnership of 31 countries created to support Ukraine against Russian aggression. The meeting was organized by Great Britain.
