US Attorney General Pam Bondi has fired at least 20 people who helped former special prosecutor Jack Smith conduct investigations against current US leader Donald Trump, ABC News reported, citing its sources.
Among the fired persons are both prosecutors and ordinary assistants who did not play a significant role in the processes. Their removal from office was facilitated by the activities of a special task force created by Bondi in February. Her team was supposed to analyze the investigations against Trump for political motives.
Smith had previously prosecuted cases on allegations of improper storage of classified documents, as well as Trump's alleged attempt in January 2021 to maintain his power despite losing the presidential election. Both cases against Trump were eventually dismissed. Smith left the Justice Department in January 2025.
