How do people live in Germany? How much do they pay for rent? How much do they earn? The Federal Statistical Office has calculated the values for the average person – including height, weight, salary. And more.
The average resident of Germany at the end of 2024 is 44.9 years old, is 1.73 meters tall and does not live alone. This is clear from the current information from the Federal Statistical Office.
Women live longer than men. And more.
Statistics also make a difference between men and women. The average woman is 46.2 years old, or about 2.5 years older than the average man, who is 43.5. This discrepancy is due to the longer average life expectancy for women - 83.5 years compared to 78.9 for men.
There is also a difference in height and weight - the average man is 1.79 meters tall and weighs 85.8 kilograms. The average woman is 1.66 meters tall and weighs 69.2 kilograms. The overall average is 1.73 meters and 77.7 kilograms.

However, the statistical office points out that this average value can be distorted by the very high incomes of some groups in society.
According to many experts, the so-called median, which divides income into two equal halves, is more objective. The value in the middle amounts to 3,978 euros gross, if not divided by gender. For a woman working full-time, it is 3,777 euros, or exactly 300 euros less than for men - 4,077 euros.
Women work part-time more often
Full-time, the average person works 40.2 hours a week - with the average woman working 39.2 hours and the average man - 40.7 hours. Part-time, the difference is in the opposite direction - 22.2 hours a week for women and 20.5 hours for men.
According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, nearly half of women in Germany work part-time, including as many as 67% of mothers. For men, the percentage is 13.3%, and for fathers it is even lower - 9%. The reasons for not working full-time also vary - most often women cite raising children as such, while fathers - additional qualifications or education.
