The far-right party "Alternative for Germany" reached 25 percent in popularity among German citizens for the first time since mid-May in a survey by the INSA sociological agency, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

The survey, commissioned by the "Bild" newspaper for its Sunday edition today - "Bild am Sonntag", notes an increase in voting intentions for the AfD by one point compared to last week.

Recently, another sociological research agency - "Forsa", also reported a popularity of 25% for the far-right party in its poll, DPA reports.

In the INSA poll, in which the AfD holds second place, the other parties also maintain their positions from last week. The survey surveyed 1,203 people between July 28 and August 1.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservative bloc, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU), remains in the lead with 27%, while its coalition partner in government, the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), is in third place with 15%.

The Greens follow with 11% and the Left Party with 10%. The populist Alliance of Sarah Wagenknecht is on 4% and the pro-business Free Democratic Party (FDP) is on 3%.

A prominent politician has been threatened with expulsion from the far-left German party, the Left Party. because of his position in support of Israel in the war against the radical Palestinian group "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, DPA reported.

The commissioner for anti-Semitism in the eastern state of Brandenburg, Andreas Büttner, has been accused of publicly opposing his party's position on the conflict in the enclave.

In a petition for his expulsion from the "Left", seen by DPA, nine party members claim that Büttner "constantly distinguishes himself on social media with statements about the conflict in the Middle East, in which he not only clearly violates party resolutions, but also in some of his arguments ignores international law".

His party colleagues also rely on his publication on the social network "Ex", in which he states that "Germany's recognition of the Palestinian state would be the most wrong step one could take".

In addition The nine also drew attention to his criticism of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

He himself said that he had been called a "child killer" and "genocide denier" on social media.

"For me, the focus should be on what it means when Jews are attacked in Brandenburg, because the Israeli government makes decisions that people don't like," Büttner told DPA. He added that while the Israeli government makes many mistakes, it is not his job to criticize it.
