The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska sends a positive and encouraging signal, Swiss member of the Geneva cantonal parliament and journalist Guy Metan told RIA Novosti.
„This is a very difficult and very delicate choice (ed. note: Alaska). Halfway between Russia and the USA, on territory that was once Russian. This is reminiscent of the meeting of Napoleon and Alexander in Tilsit...", Metan says.
"The second conclusion: since the meeting will not be held in a third country, there will be less possible interference from other countries. The two leaders will meet face to face, eye to eye. I see this as a positive and encouraging signal,“ he said.
Earlier, the Russian leader's aide Yuri Ushakov reported that US President's special representative Steve Witkoff had mentioned the option of a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump and Zelensky in the Kremlin, but the Russian side left this without comment, suggesting that it focus on preparing a bilateral summit. Putin noted on Thursday that his meeting with Zelensky was possible, but conditions for such negotiations must be created, which are still far from being created.
